Focusing on mental health

A positive thinking course has given Lee the tools to deal with lockdown.

Lee, who lives at Larchfield Community, was keen to learn more about looking after his mental and physical health. So when support worker Ruth spotted the four-week course on offer at their local branch of mental health charity Mind earlier this year, they decided to give it a try.

‘We learned about deep breathing and meditation techniques’, says Lee. ‘And it was good meeting new people too.’

The course looked at useful self-help techniques, such as positive affirmations and a personal strengths checklist. Lee’s willingness to try new things has really impressed Ruth.

‘Lee’s confidence to do something different has really paid off’, she says. ‘We’re all so proud of him for getting out of his comfort zone.’

‘I really enjoyed the course,’ says Lee. ‘It helped me to cope with my mental health and find new ways to manage it.’
