My name is Jacob and I enjoy work experience at the Café on the Corner. I am really good at cooking. Our family orders food and three times a week I cook dinner for my whole family. I also love music and have listened to music from the 1940s, 50s and 60s.
I like to cook and bake and I have learnt how to prepare
- Banana Loaf
- Lemon Drizzle cake
- Vegan Brownies
- Tomato Chutney
- Boston Baked Beans
When I am cooking/baking in the café I feel: Very happy, Proud of myself, having fun, enjoying myself, very good at cooking. The people at the Café on the Corner are kind, friendly, helpful, cheerful, polite, enthusiastic, enjoyable.
Sometimes, because of my sensory needs, I can feel a little overwhelmed. This can be for lots of reasons. Sometimes it can be because my brain has to process too much information (too busy, too noisy).
When I get stressed/overwhelmed, by body feels tense, I might clench my body or my hands together, my heart beats fast, my head hurts and thoughts go racing and racing around my head. Sometimes when this happens, I get ruminating thoughts about people who have been unkind to me in the past and I just can’t help it.This is what can help me if I get stressed/overwhelmed:
- Ask for a 10 minute break
- Wear Ear-defenders
- Have a glass of squash
- Eat a snack
- Play with fidget toys
- Choose the music playing in the Café
