Last summer Catherine attended the 10th National Special Olympics in Sheffield for athletes with an intellectual disability. The games in Sheffield were attended by around 2,600 athletes who took part in 20 sports. Catherine’s sport is swimming and she swam the 50m Backstroke, 50m Freestyle and 25m Backstroke as well as taking part in the 25m freestyle relay. She came back with a medal tally of 1 silver, 1 bronze and a ribbon (4th place).
Catherine has been swimming with Special Olympics for over 6 years now and this was her 2nd National Games . She loves to compete and has made lots of friends through sport and also enjoys keeping fit. She swims every week with her local Special Olympics branch at Loftus Swimming baths. She attends galas throughout the year as well as enjoying the social get together with the other athletes.
She is currently waiting to hear if her application to attend the next world games which is to be held in Abu Dhabi in 2019, has been successful.
