New car park to improve safety at Botton Village

Construction work on a new car parking area at Botton Village has been completed, with staff and members of the community coming together for the official opening of the brand-new facility.

Work to build 20 additional parking spaces, began in September 2019. Teeside-based construction company Simpson Coulson Limited (SCL), took on the project on behalf of Camphill Village Trust.

Botton Village General Manager, Wayne Mason said; “We’re so pleased that the North York Moors National Park Authority planning committee unanimously passed our plans for a new car park at Botton. We’ve been working hard with people in the village, and the council, to come up with a plan which will help make the village safer and more pedestrian-friendly. The new car park will also help to support our future eco-initiatives and promote cycling in the village.”

Putting safety first

The new car park is located at the entrance to the village. Therefore this will help to reduce the number of vehicles driving through the centre thereby helping to keep our community members safe. A reduction in traffic through the centre will also allow us to encourage our community members and staff to walk or cycle. Thus, promoting healthy lifestyles and supporting our environmental ambitions.

John Lees, Managing Director of Simpson Coulson said; “The friendly collaborative approach from all parties involved has been a refreshing change in the world of business and construction. The location and environment we have worked in, has demonstrated to us the great work that Camphill Village Trust do. We’re really fortunate to have contributed to this process.”

Corstorphine + Wright have worked with Camphill Village Trust on several projects over the last few years. Architect David Hardcastle said;

“The finished result by Simpson Coulson was well worth the wait. We’re proud to have been involved in this excellent setting for the entry to Botton Village.”
