We love sharing our talented community members’ creations. This ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ is a wet felted picture created by Misbah, who attends the craft studio at Larchfield Community. If you’re lucky, you might spot it on sale in the Larchfield Community gift shop – but we’re sure it will soon be snapped up!
A gradual process
Making a wet felted picture can take several weeks as each stage is completed. ‘First, you have to lay the net over a towel, and layout the felt to your design – for the background and fox’s body. Then we rub it with hot soapy water, to make all the fibres stick together,’ explains Misbah. ‘Then when it’s dry you use a felting needle for details like the nose, eyes and whiskers.’
‘I come once a week so I work on my pictures over a few weeks,’ says Misbah. ‘I’m making a red panda picture next.’
And a regular routine
Coming every week also gives Misbah a regular chance to catch up with her friends. ‘Everyone’s nice and friendly, I enjoy chatting with everyone here,’ she says. ‘Coming to Larchfield and making these pictures is one of my favourite things to do!’
