Celebrating the changing seasons gives community life its rhythm. The midsummer tradition of St John’s, with a bonfire and picnic, is a popular festival in some of our communities.
‘We weren’t sure if we could have our St John’s celebration this year,’ says Royston, who lives at Delrow Community. Fortunately, the event did go ahead and was enjoyed by many of the people we support.
‘The Art and Advocacy group made sticks with flame-coloured ribbons to represent torches,’ continues Royston. ‘And people were supported to throw a branch onto the fire with a wish or a blessing.’
Community members sang songs and enjoyed a picnic around the bonfire. ‘It was a brilliant celebration, bringing us all together!’ says Royston.
