Our Recruitment Process

We always welcome the opportunity to talk with you about the role and answer any questions you have before the interview – so please feel free to get in touch.

Application

Once we have received your online application, we aim to respond to all applicants for a support worker role within three working days.  For other roles, you may not hear from us until after the closing date when we have had the opportunity to review all the applications received.

We will contact you by email or by phone to arrange an interview. If you have not been successful we will always let you know promptly.

We always welcome the opportunity to talk with you about the role and answer any questions you have before the interview – so please feel free to get in touch.

Interview

We will send you a link to complete a personality questionnaire to complete before the interview to help us understand your strengths and suitability for the role.

We will let you know in advance what to expect when you come for the interview and how long to allow.  Usually there is an interview with two or three managers that lasts about 45 minutes and a second shorter interview involving people we support.  They will ask their own questions and have a member of staff there to support them.  Sometimes there is a practical task to complete that is relevant to the role.

If you need any adjustments due to a disability, please just let us know.

Offer

We will normally call you the next day if we would like to offer you a job with us and we will then confirm the job offer in writing.

Pre-employment checks

Our offer of employment will be conditional on the satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks.

As a social care provider, we need to carry out a number of checks before anyone starts working with us.

We carry out these checks as quickly as possible but they can sometimes take a few weeks.

We will stay in touch with you about progress during this period.

The checks we need to do include:

  • verifying your identity
  • confirming you have the right to work in the UK
  • confirming your fitness to undertake the role and looking at whether you need any adjustments to help you – we will send you a short questionnaire
  • seeking two satisfactory references from your current and most recent employers.  If you are a student or have not worked for some time we can talk with you about who else might be able to give you a reference
  • undertaking an enhanced or standard (depending upon the nature of your role) Disclosure and Barring check (DBS) of your criminal record – paid for by us.
Criminal Record

During the recruitment process, we ask you to tell us in confidence about any criminal record, including any cautions or pending prosecutions.

As your work involves access to vulnerable adults there is an exemption to the Rehabilitation of Offender Act 1974, so you will need to provide details of ‘spent’ convictions and cautions unless they are protected.  More details about what is protected can be found on the Disclosure and Barring Service website.

We will only take into account information if it is covered by the exemption and is not protected.

Having a criminal record will not prevent us from employing you.  We will consider the nature of the offence, how long ago it happened, the age you were at the time, and any other relevant factors.

Please see our policy statement for more information Policy Statement On The Recruitment Of Ex Offenders

Ready to start

Once the pre-employment checks have been completed and are satisfactory, we will be in touch to let you know and agree on a start date.

We look forward to seeing you on your first day with us.
