Focussing on prevention
This week is Adult Safeguarding Week – a chance to raise awareness, share learning and reflect on how we can all play a role in keeping people safe.
At Camphill Village Trust, safeguarding is more than stopping abuse. It’s about creating safe, supportive communities where people can live with confidence and make their own choices.
What safeguarding means
Safeguarding is about keeping people safe from harm, protecting their rights, and supporting them to live the life they choose. It’s something that touches every part of what we do across our communities.
Why prevention matters
The theme of this year’s Adult Safeguarding Week is prevention. For us, prevention means taking action early – raising awareness, building understanding, and supporting people to know their rights and how to get help.
Working together through co-production
Prevention is strongest when people are involved. That’s why the people we support play an active role in co-producing safeguarding resources – from easy read guides to short videos.
By working together, we make sure information is clear, accessible and meaningful.

Keeping the person at the centre
Safeguarding is most effective when it’s person-centred. This approach, often called making safeguarding personal, means listening carefully, respecting choices, and ensuring that each person’s voice is at the heart of every decision.
Our commitment
We develop strategies, training and resources that build awareness of safeguarding across all our communities. By embedding safeguarding into daily life, we make sure it isn’t just a policy – it’s part of the way we work, live and support each other.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility
Adult Safeguarding Week is a reminder that we all play a part in prevention. Together, we can continue to create communities where people feel safe, supported and confident to live their lives.
