At Camphill Village Trust, we believe that everyone should have the chance to grow, learn, and feel part of the world around them. For many people, technology now plays a huge part in everyday life β from staying in touch with family and friends to managing tasks, enjoying hobbies, or accessing work opportunities. Thatβs why weβre proud to celebrate the success of the first round of the Photo Adventures Photography Project at our Larchfield Community.
Learning digital skills for the first time
The project is a partnership with Middlesbrough Council and Rekindle: Digital Inclusion, and has given people we support the opportunity to try something completely new. For five out of the six participants, this was the very first time they had ever used a phone or tablet to take photos.
Not only have they explored the basics of digital photography, theyβve also learnt how to upload their images into an online gallery β a huge step in developing digital confidence and independence.
More than photography
While the group has enjoyed getting creative with cameras, this project is about more than taking pictures. Itβs about:
- Building confidence to try something new
- Developing digital skills that open doors in everyday life
- Connecting with the wider community outside of Larchfield
- Gaining independence in an increasingly digital world
The group will soon be putting their skills to the test at an off-site photography session, where they can capture new places, people, and experiences.

Bringing our i-statements to life
This project is also a fantastic example of our co-produced i-statements in action β statements created with the people we support that describe what a life of opportunity means to them:
π¬ βI want to be more confident in my life. I want to grow and develop.β
π¬ βI have skills and abilities, I may need support to get training, voluntary or paid work.β
Through projects like Photo Adventures, we support people to grow in confidence, discover their abilities, and take part in opportunities that make a real difference to their lives.

Technology as a tool for independence
For many of us, using a phone or computer feels second nature. But for people who may not have had the chance before, learning how to take photos, share them online, or navigate digital tools can be empowering. It helps people build skills for the future, stay connected, and gain confidence in the wider world.
At Camphill Village Trust, we are supporting people to use technology in ways that increase their independence, creativity, and inclusion. The Photo Adventures project is just one example of how digital learning can open doors to a life of opportunity.
