An Inclusive Campus for People with SEN
Severnside Skills is more than a learning campus – it’s a place where people aged 16+ with special educational needs (SEN) can gain confidence, build practical skills, and work towards independence.
Based at Taurus Crafts and part of Camphill Village Trust, a national charity supporting people with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health problems, Severnside Skills provides a unique, inclusive learning environment. Here, education isn’t one-size-fits-all – it’s designed around each individual’s needs and strengths.
Personalised learning and real-world experience
At Severnside Skills, learning goes beyond the classroom. We offer personalised, AQA-certified courses in areas such as Catering, Events, Retail & Hospitality, alongside short six-week programmes like Field to Fork and Barista skills.
Our learners gain hands-on experience in a thriving social enterprise environment. They can make and serve food in our café, help organise and run events, and be fully involved in meaningful work opportunities. This practical approach helps participants develop skills that matter in real-world employment, while also fostering confidence and independence.
Why we are needed
Mainstream education doesn’t suit everyone. For people with SEN, traditional learning pathways can feel inaccessible or overwhelming. At Severnside Skills, learning fits YOU, providing the support and structure needed to thrive.
The need is clear: only 6.6% of people with learning disabilities are in some form of paid employment (Foundations for People with Learning Disabilities). Severnside Skills is working to change that, creating vocational training and employment pathways that give learners a real chance at work and independence.
Real impact and outcomes
The outcomes of Severnside Skills speak for themselves:
- – Employment opportunities tailored to individual skills and interests
- – Increased independence and life skills
- – Improved confidence and self-esteem
- – Real-world experience in a supportive, inclusive environment
By combining personalised learning with hands-on experience, Severnside Skills helps people with SEN build meaningful lives, gain independence, and achieve their potential.
