This year’s theme for World Down Syndrome Day (21st March 2025) is Improve Our Support Systems and it highlights a critical issue. Many people with Down syndrome around the world do not receive the support they need to live fulfilling, independent lives. In some countries, adequate support systems do not exist. In others, existing structures fail to uphold the human rights of people with disabilities.
A good support system must be more than just available—it must be effective, inclusive, and respectful. Support should not be a privilege but a right, enabling people with Down syndrome to fully participate in society, pursue employment, take on responsibilities, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
