What do we offer adults with learning disabilities?

About Taurus Crafts

Taurus Crafts provides work and training opportunities for the people we support, developing new skills, building confidence and enabling people to participate actively in the community.

We’re a centre of excellence recognised for working with people whose needs are not well met through mainstream education and employment programmes.

The people we support are at the heart of all we do, and Taurus Crafts is a place where people’s skills can shine.

At Taurus Crafts, people we support are involved in all aspects of our award-winning centre. Trainees serve in our shops and develop their hospitality skills in every area of our café. Our beautiful, artisan gifts and imaginatively designed cards are made by people with learning disabilities as is the crockery we use in our café, which is hand-thrown in our pottery at our nearby Grange Community.

Day opportunities

As a visitor centre, our focus is on providing opportunities for people with mild to moderate learning disabilities and autism, through entry level vocational training in retail and catering, supported volunteering and supported employment.

We offer creative day opportunities for the people we support. If you’re interested in attending one of our day opportunities or activities, please contact us.

Our other day opportunities include:

Retail:

  • Skills in customer service – including being a friendly and approachable member of the team.
  • Product data input.
  • Carrying out cash or card transactions.
  • Deliveries of stock.
  • Manual handling skills.

Café:

  • Customer service including a friendly smile to greet a customer and making them feel welcome.
  • Learning how to make a speciality coffee and a lovely cup of tea.
  • Working within a team using communication skills and understanding how and why we do things.
  • Understanding the need for good presentation and hygiene.
  • Taking orders on the till and delivering orders out to customers.
