A day to remember at our Delrow community
Yesterday, we marked a milestone in our journey as Camphill Village Trust celebrated its 70th anniversary in true style. The festivities, held in the vibrant surroundings of our Delrow Community, brought together over 100 supporters, family members, staff, and the people we support. It was a day filled with joy, connection, and celebration—a fitting tribute to seven decades of meaningful impact.
A morning of reflection and milestones
The day began with a significant moment: our Board gathered for the Annual General Meeting (AGM). This was the first time our AGM was held in person since before the pandemic, making it an extra special occasion. The morning was a reflection of how far we’ve come and the shared commitment to the future of Camphill Village Trust.
A festival to remember
In the afternoon, the Karl König Hall in Delrow was transformed into a colourful celebration of art, music, and community spirit. The hall was adorned with incredible handmade artworks created by the people we support, showcasing their talents and the creativity that defines our communities and celebrating our innovative Green Care programme and the activities within it.
Among the highlights were:
- The Jubilee Quilt: A beautiful patchwork masterpiece with contributions from all our communities, each patch uniquely reflecting their identity.
- Legacy of Leaves Trees: Nine stunning handmade tree art pieces, each representing the community where they were created and crafted by the people we support.
- 70 Faces for 70 Years: An inspiring installation featuring portraits of staff and the people we support, accompanied by their stories, bringing our shared journey to life.
All of which showcase how we are honouring our past, providing for the present and leading the future.
Music, food, and togetherness
The Delrow Choir gave a spirited performance of popular songs such as ABBA’s Dancing Queen and a selection of songs from the last 70 years. The hall echoed with singing, clapping, and dancing as everyone joined in the celebration.
Lunch was a feast to remember, prepared by the talented people we support from our Severnside Skills catering course at Taurus Crafts. The delicious spread showcased not only culinary skill but also the confidence and pride that is encouraged through our vocational programme.
Guests were also treated to a leisurely nature walk around the beautiful Delrow Community grounds, expertly guided by the people we support and offering a moment of calm and connection with nature.
A moment to celebrate
The festivities reached their peak with the cutting of a fabulous 70th anniversary cake, lovingly made by members of Delrow Community. A closely kept secret by the Delrow Bakery until the big reveal. A beautiful cake reflecting the nature in the community.
Our CEO, Sara Thakkar, delivered a heartfelt speech, reflecting on our 70-year journey and expressing gratitude to everyone who has supported us along the way.
A marketplace of creativity
Stalls displayed a range of handmade items crafted by the people we support, from stunning artwork to Christmas cards and thoughtful gifts. You can also shop these items and more on our online shop!
We also introduced limited edition 70th anniversary merchandise, including flasks, tote bags, and badges, giving attendees the chance to take home a piece of the celebration.
A day of gratitude and joy
The festival was a testament to everything that makes Camphill Village Trust special: the creativity of the people we support, the dedication of our staff, and the unwavering commitment of our supporters. It was a day filled with laughter, song, and the warmth of shared purpose—a true celebration of our past, present, and future.
Thank you to everyone who joined us to mark this momentous occasion. Here’s to the next 70 years of Camphill Village Trust!
