Bringing the Woods to Life

Bringing the Woods to Life

This March on World Theatre Day, the woods at Delrow Community became the stage for something truly magical. Community members were invited to step into an immersive outdoor experience, where storytelling, creativity and nature combined to create a joyful and meaningful event.

With a little mystery at its heart, the woodland walk followed the story of Fuzzlegump and friends, as participants helped restore harmony to a forest disrupted by unseen forces. Along the way, the woods came alive with dancing badgers, a talking tree and playful fairy folk; each brought to life by the creativity and dedication of those involved in Delrow’s drama workshop.

The event is a wonderful example of Camphill Village Trust’s Creative Arts for Wellbeing programme in action, part of its wider nature-based therapies and skills offer. These programmes are designed to support people to build confidence, develop practical and creative skills, and express themselves in ways that feel meaningful to them.

What made the day even more special was the collaboration across the Delrow community. The performance drew on the talents and contributions of multiple workshops, including arts and advocacy, textiles, pottery, music and the café. From handmade puppets and costumes to live music and dance, every detail reflected the shared effort and creativity of the people involved. There were even subtle nods to Delrow’s own history woven into the experience, adding an extra layer of connection and pride.

Rooted in the natural environment, the event highlights the important role that nature plays in wellbeing. Being outdoors can help reduce stress, improve mood and encourage connection—both with the environment and with one another. By combining creativity with the calming and inspiring qualities of the natural world, initiatives like this create powerful opportunities for growth and enjoyment.

As one parent shared, “It was fun, inclusive, imaginative, we loved it!”

Above all, the day was filled with laughter, imagination and a strong sense of belonging. It offered a chance for people to showcase their skills, support one another and celebrate what can be achieved when creativity and community come together.
