We are looking for experienced candidates who have enthusiasm for high-quality customer service in a café/catering environment.

About the role

We serve well-prepared organic food made with skill, and passion from fresh ingredients of which are produced within our community.

The Café stands at the heart of Botton Community. It welcomes visitors, local and internal alike. Our daily operation includes a mixed ability team providing meaningful work placement opportunities for people we support and guest volunteers.

As a café lead, it is your job to co-ordinate the mixed ability team to ensure a smooth and cost-effective operation. Provide a consistent and high-quality service experience for customers and enhance the reputation of the Cafe.

Primarily the role consists of:

  • Menu planning
  • Meal preparation
  • Ordering of stock from internal departments.
  • Ordering of other kitchen items within the budgeted margins.
  • Delegation of tasks to your mixed ability team such as Taking & Serving orders, assisting with food preparation, and cleaning.
  • Ensuring that at all times the cafe’s internal and external areas are clean, tidy and well presented
  • To oversee the effective operation of wash up.
  • Ensure that your mixed-ability teamwork together meeting standards for quality, food safety, health and safety and efficiency.
  • Promote the café at every opportunity to increase footfall and revenue.
  • Undertake supervisory responsibilities for the Guest Volunteers within your work area, such as supervisions, and target setting.

What we need from you

Ideally, you will have experience of operating in a café or restaurant team without close supervision and ideally experience working within a care or support setting, ideally with adults with learning disabilities, with at least one year at a more senior level. Supervisory experience and leading a team would be a distinct advantage.

A food hygiene certificate level 2 or be willing to undertake relevant training for this. Have knowledge of a variety of dietary requirements and how to plan this into meal planning. And knowledge in using Microsoft office and office 365 would be an advantage.

You will be good at both listening to and talking with people.  You will have a positive and patient approach to supporting people with daily activities and enjoy helping people learn and explore new things.  You have a flexible approach and able to motivate other people.  What is most important to us is that you share our values, have a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.

You will be working on a rota to cover a busy café from Monday to Sunday.

Ideally, you will need a full manual driving licence which allows you to drive in the UK, as you will be driving the charity’s vehicles.
