Cafe Support Worker

 About the role  

This is a wonderful opportunity to make a positive difference to people’s lives.

As a part of the Day Opportunities team, your role will be to help ensure that the café offers a suitable, effective environment for the people we support, one which is safe, stimulating and welcoming to all.

You will be part of a creative and vibrant team supporting people alongside our Café Manager and Café Assistant. You will be involved in helping those we support to develop themselves to reach their maximum potential as individuals and encourage their aspirations within a Café environment to ensure they enjoy and take pride in their time at the Cafe.

This is a part-time role where you will be required to work 30 hours per week over 4 days. This role will be to cover shifts from 8:30am till 4:30 pm, Monday to Saturday.

Our Café is also situated within the centre of St Albans. The team support people to develop their skills to complete a wide variety of tasks from customer service to baking. There is a real focus on teamwork.

We provide a full induction and free training.  We will support you to obtain the Care Certificate when you first join us and to obtain further professional qualifications later if you want to do so.

Our hourly rate of pay is £9.36 ph.

What we need from you

Experience: Some previous experience of working with vulnerable people, ideally with adults with learning disabilities and mental health conditions. Experience of working within a Café role. Working knowledge of Health & Safety and First Aid would be advantageous. A calm, person orientated approach with a flexible mindset and the ability to take and give direction from and to others. Proven ability to be honest, dependable and dedicated to your role.

Qualifications: A suitable level of education is required, you should be able to converse with the general public and others in a polite, clear manner utilising a confident approach tailored specifically to those you are conversing with. You must the have the ability to write in a legible manner, keep records and write clear accounts of your work/incident reports etc.

Skills and knowledge: Working knowledge of risk assessment, health and safety, safeguarding, person-centred planning, equalities and human rights essential. A common-sense approach, fun but mature attitude and approachability are key. Being supportive of the Camphill values and philosophy and helping promote our approach to building our community is desirable for this role.
