Cafe Support Worker

Location: Malton, North Yorkshire

Salary: £8.50 p/h

Our newly refurbished Kingfisher Café is opening in early 2020, which will enable us to offer further day placement opportunities for people to work and train within our five-star hygiene rated café.  The café sits in the heart of Malton Town and has a high number of loyal and supportive customers.

In preparation for our grand re-opening, we are expanding the team.  We are currently looking for Café/Workshop Support Workers who can work either full time or part-time basis.

Croft Community & Kingfisher Café

Croft Community, located on the edge of the North Yorkshire market town of Malton, supports amazing people to realise their potential.

The Croft operates a range of supported work opportunities and community projects. These include a Market Garden, a Café, textile, enterprise and community-focused workshops.

Currently supporting 37 community members, and a growing number of day opportunities for adults with learning disabilities across all age ranges. We strive to develop skills and talents to enable people we support to make valuable contributions to the Croft and local communities. We are proud of our links with the local area and of building opportunities through partnership and connectivity.

We combine individualised and shared support. This enables people to access the broadest possible range of opportunities in the community.

Our unique community supports individuals to realise their potential, strengthen their independence skills, develop relationships and live a life of opportunity.

The job role

You will have a passion for working with people and an enthusiasm for high-quality customer service in our supported café and workshop environments.

You will be required to support a mixed ability team to work and learn, whilst delivering a high level of customer service with quality home cooked food, to continue our exceptional reputation, within the Kingfisher café and other community workshops.

What we provide

We provide a full induction and free training.  We will support you to obtain the Care Certificate when you first join us and to obtain further professional qualifications later if you want to do so.

What we need from you

No qualifications or previous experience are needed.  You may have previous experience in care, just be starting work, or looking to do something different.  What is important to us is that you share our values, have a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.  You will be good at both listening to and talking with people.  You will have a positive and patient approach to supporting people with daily activities and enjoy helping people learn and explore new things.  You have a flexible approach and like work both as part a team as well as on your own.

It would be a distinct advantage if you have;

  • a similar experience of working within a similar social care environment, with people who have learning disabilities, physical disabilities, mental health and complex needs; and
  • experience of preparing a variety of healthy meals and bakery items or a particular interest in cooking and baking, within a café or restaurant team.
  • a food hygiene certificate level 2, or be willing to undertake relevant training for this.
  • overall, you must be approachable and able to work well in a team.
