Day Opportunities Support Worker

About the role

As a Day Opportunities Support worker, your role will be to help ensure that each of the day opportunity day services (Allotment, Café and Art Studio) offers a suitable, effective environment for the people we support, one which is safe, stimulating and welcoming to all.

You will be part of a creative and vibrant team supporting people with creative projects in our newly extended art studio based in the centre of St Albans. The Art Studio offers a variety of activities ranging from ceramics and lino printing to sketching and painting.

This is a full-time role and you will be required to cover across the Café & the Studio. We are ideally looking for the right person to start in October 2019.

This is an exciting time to join our team in the studio as we are in the process of developing new creative workshops to attract a wider client base.

Our Café is also situated within the centre of St Albans. The team support people to develop their skills to complete a wide variety of tasks from customer service to baking. There is a real focus on teamwork.

What we provide

We provide a full induction and free training.  We will support you to obtain the Care Certificate when you first join us and to obtain further professional qualifications later if you want to do so.

Our hourly rate of pay is £9.36 ph.  Contractual salary is 18,252.00 per annum based on a full time 37.5 hours per week contract, Monday-Friday with occasional Saturday shifts.

What we need from you

Experience: Some previous experience of working with vulnerable people, ideally with adults with learning disabilities and mental health conditions. Experience of working within a creative/artistic role. Working knowledge of Health & Safety and First Aid would be advantageous. A calm, person orientated approach with a flexible mindset and the ability to take and give direction from and to others. Proven ability to be honest, dependable and dedicated to your role.

Qualifications: A suitable level of education is required, you should be able to converse with the general public and others in a polite, clear manner utilising a confident approach tailored specifically to those you are conversing with. You must then have the ability to write in a legible manner, keep records and write clear accounts of your work/incident reports etc.

Skills and Knowledge: Working knowledge of risk assessment, health and safety, safeguarding, person-centred planning, equalities and human rights essential. A common-sense approach, fun but mature attitude and approachability are key. Being supportive of the Camphill values and philosophy and helping promote our approach to building our community is desirable for this role.
