Newly named café ‘Crows Nest Kitchen’ reopens in Grange Village

Crows Nest Kitchen

This week we launched our newly named ‘Crows Nest Kitchen’ within Grange Village, which is open to everyone throughout our Gloucestershire communities.

The cafe is an expansion on our previous pre-ordering ‘Grab and Go’ model café which we started in June 2020 when we re-opened Day Opportunities after the pandemic.

The new café is a social space, where people we support can pop in for a bite to eat and drink and catch up with friends.

Clare, Day Opportunities Manager, said: ‘The launch has been a real collaboration between different teams. The Crafts and Woodwork Day Ops have upcycled, The Pottery made the letters for the new name, we have bunting and pom poms from Crafts, artwork from one of the community members, and the flowers on the tables come from the Social Garden.

Food production day opportunities will be supporting the café Monday to Thursday, with the afternoon being a bakery session to help prepare the pastry, dough and cakes for the following day.

Feedback from our community

We’ve had some great feedback from community members and visitors alike:

‘I think it’s fantastic, good healthy food. I like the cakes!’

‘The food is delicious and very reasonably priced!’

The Crows Nest Kitchen is brilliant and good for the community with yummy food.

Tammie the Day Opportunity Lead is an inspiration and a very important person in our community, thank you Tammie for your great food and the bakery.

Furniture and decorations made by the people we support and from sustainable sources.

The Crows Nest Kitchen will have a seasonal menu, carefully selected by community members who attended a ‘Menu Testing Event’ to pick their favourite menu choices.

The menu is based around fresh produce from the gardens at Grange Village. With salads, daily specials, quiches, and pizzas based on the season,  the menu options is are as ‘home grown’ as possible.

Within the café there is also a small shop area selling eggs, juice and other provisions, allowing staff and community members the opportunity to purchase produce directly from the café.

Clare said,

There is a real buzz going around the Grange Village about the launch, we hope to see it become a real hub for everyone who is part of the community. We are starting small but have big ideas!

Well done for a wonderful achievement to everyone at Grange Village! We are excited to see how the café continues to develop over the coming years.
